How to get Certified:

Review the certification requirements of the credential you wish to apply for and determine whether you meet all the requirements. Applicants applying to the NMCCBHP must satisfy the residency/work requirement, must live and/or work at least 51% of the time within the jurisdiction of the NMCBBHP when applying for initial certification.

Certification Process

1. All applicants for certification are required to complete a formal application.
2. Once this application has been completed by the applicant, it is submitted to the Certification board with all required documentation for review.
3. Application deadlines: January 1, April 1, July 1, October 1
4. The Board's certified AODA professionals will review the application for completeness and content.
a. If all application criteria has been met, the applicant for certification will be sent information regarding testing.
b. If the application criterion has not been met, the applicant will be notified of what information is missing from the application.
c. Application will be re-reviewed upon submission of missing documentation. Review fees apply.
5. CADAC, CPS, CCS and CCJP Applicants will be notified of date, time and location for the exam.
Exams are held in the following months: March, June, September, December
To qualify to sit for the exam you must have your application approved prior to the examination.
6. Approved applicants take the exam. Those who pass the exam will be awarded the Credential (CADAC, CPS, CCS or CCJP).
Certificates are awarded on a quarterly basis after scores are received by the Testing Company. (SMT). 7. Certification is for a 2 year period. Renewal-able every 2 years.

NOTE: Credentials that do not require examination include: Certified Prevention Intern (CPI) an entry level credential, not eligible for recertification.
Senior Certified Prevention Specialist (SCPS) is an advanced level which includes a prerequisite.

Candidates for examination must meet all requirements and submit a portfolio containing completed application as well as the following:
- Documentation of certificates of education & training
- Supervised practicum training
- Verification of employment
- Supervisor's Evaluation Form
- Peer and outside agency support letters;
- Signed Application; Code of Ethics; Statement of Understanding/Authorization to Release

Re-Certification Process

Re-certification application must be submitted 60 days prior to expiration date.
Requirements may vary with each credential, but most include the following requirements:
- 40 Continuing Education hours, 6 of those hours must be ethics specific to your credential
- Re-Certification Fee
- Check with board for any additional requirements per credential.

* Late fees: Application for Re-Certification at the same level of CADAC must be postmarked 60 days prior to the expiration date of the Certificate.
An application received after that date; the applicant will be considered in INACTIVE STATUS, neither certified nor non-certified.
The applicant must be reinstated to ACTIVE STATUS within the next six (6) months of expiration date or RE-TESTING will be required to continue active certification.
A late fee charge of $100.00 will be assessed beyond the expiration date in addition to the re-certification fees of $100.00.

IC&RC INTERNATIONAL CERTIFICATE

If you wish to apply for or renew your IC&RC International Certificate the Application/renewal form is due along with your re-certification application and must be returned to NMCBBHP for verification and submission to the IC&RC for processing your International Certificate.
This certification corresponds with your NMCBBHP credential period of two years.
