NMCBBHP offers certification that are not IC&RC specific credentials, these are recognized credentials with the state of New Mexico and do not have reciprocity with IC&RC:  CPI - Certified Prevention Intern and SCPS - Senior Certified Prevention Specialist


Requirements for CPI - Certified Prevention Intern

The Certified Prevention Intern credential is an entry-level certification; and is not eligible for reciprocity with IC&RC Member States.  Certificate is issued only for a two-year period and is eligible for re-certification 

Experience:  

  • ‚Äč6 months/1,000 hours of Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug (ATOD) within the past 3 years in prevention work experience.

Education: 

  • Fifty-six (50) hours of prevention specific education. Eighteen (12) hours of this education must be ATOD specific.  Six hours must be specific to prevention ethics. These hours must have been completed within five years prior to application submission.

Supervision: 

  • Sixty (60) hours specific to the domains (see below) with a minimum of ten hours in each domain.
  • Code of Ethics: 

Applicants must sign a prevention specific code of ethics statement & statement of understanding.



Re-certification:  40 hours of continuing education earned every two years, 6 of those hours must be in Prevention Ethics and Responsibility.

Requirements for Senior Certified Prevention Professional (SCPS)

The SCPS credential has PS reciprocity ONLY with IC&RC member states and is eligible for the CPS International Certificate. This credential is only available through the NMCBBHP.

Prerequisite:  Applicant must hold and maintain a PS credential at the IC&RC reciprocal level

Experience: 

  • 5 years/10,000 hours of Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug (ATOD) within the past 3 years in prevention work experience.

Education: 

  • One Hundred Twenty (120) hours of prevention specific education.  Fifty (50) hours of this education must be ATOD specific. Six hours must be specific to prevention ethics. These hours must have been completed within five years prior to application submission.

Supervision: 

  • One hundred forty-four (144) hours specific to the domains (see below) with a minimum of sixteen hours in each domain. 

Code of Ethics: 

  • Applicants must sign a prevention specific code of ethics statement & statement of understanding.



Recertification: 40 hours of continuing education hours, which includes (six) 6 hours in Prevention Ethics and (six) 6 hours of Leadership, Management, or Supervisory Skills training must be earned in two years.
